Constantine
By: Patrick Vu | Category: DVD Archive | 02/22/05 | 09:15 AM
PM Rating System Grade: D | Genre: Mystery/Action
Summary: This film is barely worth your time, and you're better off watching something like Hitch, which the wife and I did afterwards.

ConstantineStarring: Keanu Reeves, Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Djimon Hounsou
Director: Francis Lawrence

Wow, it seems we've mentioned Keanu Reeves a lot this week, haven't we? Don't get us wrong, it's not because we admire him or praise the work he's done. At the moment, he's just an easy target. His consistently poor performances beg the question, "How do he and Ben Affleck continue to get work?"

Anyway, I just saw Constantine, and I must say...what the heck was going on?

I don't know why, but I always seem to give Keanu Reeves (and Ben Affleck) the benefit of the doubt. With every movie that he puts out, I forget all that I've learn from watching his work over the years, and aimlessly venture beyond my better judgement. After about two hours, I find myself thoroughly disappointed and upset that I didn't spend the time watching Seinfeld reruns.

John Constantine (Reeves) is a spirit investigator/exorcist dying of lung cancer and destined to parish in hell (for reasons not too clear), but while still alive, he figures he'll try to win God's favor by thwarting demons trying to take over mankind...or something like that...smoking cigarettes the entire time.

Along the way, Angela (Weisz), seeks Constantine's services in order to find out why her twin sister committed suicide. All Hell breaks loose (pun intended) and Kee-nu is our only hope. Thank God for that (pun also intended)!

Constantine is over done, though the special effects are pretty good, and the story line's confusing. Reeves is his usual blank-stare self while the lovely Weisz was enough to keep my attention. This film is barely worth your time, and you're better off watching something like Hitch, which the wife and I did afterwards.

In case I haven't turned you off from this movie, check movie times.
