Director: Wolfgang Petersen
Dan Merrick (Berenger) has it all. A loving wife, beautiful home, fancy life-style...but what he doesn't have is his memory. Recovering from a near fatal and disfiguring auto accident, Dan, helped by his wife, Judith (Scacchi), must recover and bring their "Shattered" lives back to normal. He must relearn the life he's always known, but as he progresses, Dan discovers that he isn't such a nice guy, his marriage is in shambles and his "loving wife" is in love with someone else!
To get a better grip on things, Dan hires a private investigator, Gus Klein (Hoskins), to help fill in the gaps. The more they uncover the more complicated things get. Dan too was having an affair before the accident and now Stanton, Judith's lover, is missing.
Dan continues to dig deeper uncovering twist after twist. Was the accident really an accident? What is Judith up to? Where the heck is Stanton? Just as the story begins to make sense of things, "Shattered" drops the bomb of all bombs and believe me, it's the best ending you'll never predict!
"Shattered" is a forgotten film that deserves to be recognized as a well-crafted thriller that will keep you on your toes. It's "Regarding Henry" on speed.
"Shattered" is one of Wolfgang Peterson's early film works that helped him graduate from his German television days to become a part of mainstream America. He carefully weaves together the intricate sub-plots and is able to present a film motivated by complete chaos that will have audiences gasping for air.
