What is the deal with The Passion Recut?

So why is this new version of the Passion being released into theatres during the Easter season? Is this truly a new look at this popular, controversial film or is it simply a way for Gibson to keep buying up the Fiji Islands with your Passion dollars? Gibson and his distributor, NewMarket films, decided to slice 6 minutes from the film in hopes of eliminating some of the ultra-violence that turned off some viewers. Interestingly the MPAA still slapped the edited version with an R rating, so how different can it really be? Admittedly, the Passion was a beautiful and moving film but cutting 6 minutes of the absurd, over the top violence doesn't even come close to giving this film the scrubbing it deserves to bring it in line with reality.
