War of the Worlds is being described as a throw back to Speilberg's early days in cinema, "A Close Encounters of the Third Kind with a far more sinister edge." That is quite a lofty statement. Based on the H.G. Wells alien invasion story of 1898, War of the Worlds seeks to strike the same fear in audiences as the 1938 Orson Welles' radio broadcast.
