1500 volunteers stripped down into their birthday suits in the name of art. American artist Spencer Tunick was shooting in Newcastle and Gateshead for his latest piece. Past works included 7000 people baring all in Barcelona and 4000 in Melbourne. Volunteers pre-registered for the event from Peru, Belgium and Australia. When one of the volunteers was asked how she felt about this open display, she replied, "It was strange not to be self-conscious in that environment - normally I wouldn't even wear a skirt, I only wear trousers, so nobody even sees my legs. The main problem was avoiding stepping in vomit - there were a few chips and kebabs around."
