2005 has marked the worst slump in box office tracking history seeing tickets down 8% over year ago numbers. A proliferation of reasons have been cited for the drop off from film piracy to screwy lunar cycles, but most are sheer conjecture at best. A study was done searching 1.9 million Internet blogs to pull out 1350 posts using Internet bots, and the key reason cited was the lack of quality films. Many other reasons came up such as the ease of selection of online renters like Netflix and hefty movie ticket costs to onscreen commercials and inadequate parking. Films aren't just competing against themselves, but also sporting events and concerts for the attention of the consumer. If finding a quality picture at the Cineplex is to you like finding meaning in a Pauly Shore movie, check out PM's films page to see what's worth your hard earned dollar.
