"A Concert for Hurricane Relief" went from a heartfelt plea for help to a political launching pad the moment Kanye West stepped on the stage. Veering from pre-prepared comments, he said, "George Bush doesn't care about black people" and said America is set up "to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off as slow as possible." He went on to blast the media in general saying "I hate the way they portray us in the media. If you see a black family, it says they're looting. See a white family, it says they're looking for food." While his comments may have come at an inopportune time, given the nature of the event, it expresses the frustration felt by many in the African-American community.
