Lost: Death of a Survivor Grade: B | Genre: Drama
Summary: After starting the new season off with a whimper, they genuinely seem to be getting back to the explosive plot twists, socking us with the unthinkable developments, to sink the hooks of addiction ever deeper.

It's been three painstaking weeks since Lost left us stranded in the television ether. Of course in true Lost fashion, they had to leave us salivating with a doozy of a plot hangnail -- the death of one of our castaways is imminent. Will it be Sawyer (Josh Holloway) whose rancid arm seems sure to spirit his grumpy ass off the isle any second? Will it be one of the ever-dwindling number of south side survivors of Flight 815? Or will it be some random guy who goes out for a morning swim and gets caught up in the undertow? Blub, blub, blub. The possibilities for death in this place are endless. For the time being, we'll stick with what we do know. The character we're asked to focus our attention on is none other than the sizzling college coed Shannon (Maggie Grace). It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it.

So Sayid (Naveen Andrews) has built Shannon a tent. Not just any tent. This puppy is macked out, seduction style. It works too because Shannon gives our ex-Iraqi soldier those "you're getting laid tonight" eyes. Next thing you know, his gun is poking her. No, no...I really mean his gun. Anyway, I'll cut away so I can retain the site's questionable PG rating. In the afterglow, Sayid steps out for a second, and Shannon sees lost little one, Walt, soaking wet, mumbling some indiscernible gibberish. Then he vanishes. Sayid doesn't believe her, thinking in the 30-seconds he was gone, she dozed off and immediately kicked into REM sleep to get a quick nightmare off. Of course, his placating her gets her super pissed. Will these men ever learn?

Lost: Death of a Survivor
The real island mystery is how she's been stuck here for months yet her hair is still salon fresh.

The Lost boys and girls, sitting at the geek table, continue to trudge through the dense jungle to get the cool kids (Michael, Sawyer & Jin) back to their football games and cheerleading practices. It seems like its been days that they've been chugging along. They're constantly looking over their shoulders thinking the Others are following lock step, just waiting for them to turn around so they can slice them up into trendy handbags. Sawyer is looking ever worse by the minute. He's still got the bite in his spunky retorts, but staying on his feet without assistance is becoming a feat of Herculean proportions. Ana-Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez) wants to leave his butt to rot, but those whose heart has not been sealed up in a block of ice, fight for his cause. It's not looking good for the island's resident smart-ass.

So let's push on to Shannon's back story, shall we. We flash back to Shannon at eighteen, teaching ballet to impressionable youngsters when she gets the call that her father has just been in a fatal car accident. Boone's back -- well at least in the flashback. He comes to his stepfather's funeral to support her with his borderline incestuous love. Relations aren't well with her cold mother-in-law who regards her as a spoiled brat. Shannon scores a prestigious dance internship in New York, only to find out her funds have dried up. Her father left all his earthly possessions to the family trust, and mommie dearest has so conveniently staked her claim on it. Boone (Ian Somerhalder) tries to give her dire situation a little financial greasing, but she will have none of it. She's determined to make it on her own and prove everyone wrong.

Back to the present, where Shannon is taking yellow dog and bounding through the jungle in search of Walt. Sayid is in tow, reminding her of her lunacy with each step. Somebody should really clue him in that this is like five times worse than not calling the next morning. Then there is Walt again, standing in the pouring jungle rain. The kid is everywhere. It's a verifiable Waltapalooza. Shannon tears off through the jungle after him as we're left waiting behind on Sayid to get his butt in gear. Next, we hear an ominous gunshot. Ana-Lucia has shot Shannon point blank in the chest in a tragic case of mistaken identity, and, for all intents and purposes, she's just joined Boone on the great rescue ship of the hereafter. J.J. Abrams, you just took out the second hottest girl on the island. Are you frippin' mad, man? You're screwing up my soon to be written up sexiest women of television list. Bastard!

Well they certainly started things up after the break with a bang. I don't think anyone saw Shannon getting used for target practice. After starting the new season off with a whimper (I mean the hatch revelation? What a buzz kill.), they genuinely seem to be getting back to the explosive plot twists, socking us with the unthinkable developments, to sink the hooks of addiction ever deeper. When they do finally wrap this show up, I think you are going to see Lost Anonymous 12-step programs cropping up in community centers across the country. The sex addicts will just have to start meeting at the bar or something.
