The Golden Globes nominations have officially been released and the new Ang Lee drama Brokeback Mountain tops all films with seven nominations including best dramatic picture. It will go head-to-head with such vaulted releases like Good Night and Good Luck, The Constant Gardener, A History of Violence and Match Point. Brokeback Mountain has already won the New York Film Critic Circle's highest honor of being named best picture and further praised with best director and best actor awards (Heath Ledger). George Clooney racked up 4 nominations spread across his tour de force filmmaker efforts on both sides of the camera in Good Night and Good Luck and Syriana.
Other notable nominations included Russell Crowe (Cinderella Man), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote), Terrance Howard (Hustle & Flow) and David Strathaim (Good Night and Good Luck) for best actor. Maria Bello (A History of Violence), Felicity Huffman (Transamerica), Gwyneth Paltrow (Proof), Charlize Theron (North Country) and Ziyi Zhang (Memoirs of a Geisha) filled out the nominations for best actress. Huffman is double fisting the nominations, getting the nod with her fellow Desperate Housewives (Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher and Eva Longoria) for best actress in the television musical or comedy category.
